Rhizoboxes - Online Store

Standard Rhizoboxes are available in A5, A4 or A3 paper size (external dimensions), are 3 cm deep (internal dimensions) and have a perforated bottom for water drainage. The internal dimensions of the A5 boxes are 19.2 cm high and 11.2 cm wide, the A4 boxes are 27.9 cm high and 17.4 cm wide, and the A3 boxes are 40.2 cm high and 26.1 cm wide (inside). The front (clear) and back (black) panels are individually removable for soil filling/root sampling. The clear front panel allows observation / imaging of root system development and/or mycorrhizal hyphae / soil fauna. The Rhizoboxes are made of durable acrylic (4 mm PMMA) and come unassembled with all necessary hardware included (hex screws, spacers, etc.). Variants made from new (standard) or recycled PMMA are available - Go Green! For custom Rhizobox designs, larger orders and export (outside the EU), please submit the Rhizobox customization form via email. Rhizobox assembly instructions are given in the FAQs. Consider the use of Standard Racks or Compact Racks to facilitate root growth along the transparent front panel, and Light Shielding Panels to facilitate light exclusion. 

Standard Splitboxes for root observation available in A5, A4 or A3 paper size (external dimensions), are 3 cm deep (internal dimensions) and have a perforated bottom for water drainage. The "Splitbox" allows two plants per Rhizobox to be grown separately for space efficient experiments / demonstrations (e.g. different fertilizers, drought, species) side by side - with a middle separator / centre partition. The internal dimensions of the A5 root boxes are 19.2 cm high and 11.2 cm wide (5.4 cm per compartment), the A4 boxes are 27.9 cm high and 17.4 cm wide (8.5 cm per compartment), and the A3 boxes are 40.2 cm high and 26.1 cm wide (12.8 cm per compartment). The front (clear) and back (black) panels are removable for soil filling/root sampling. The clear front panel allows observation / imaging of root system development and/or mycorrhizal hyphae / soil fauna. The Splitboxes are made of durable acrylic (4 mm PMMA) and come unassembled with all necessary hardware included (hex screws, spacers, etc.). Splitbox variants made from virgin (standard) or recycled PMMA are available - Go Green! For custom Splitbox designs, larger orders and export (outside the EU), please submit the Rhizobox customization form. Rhizonboxes hold a perforated back panel for use with Rhizon Soil Water Samplers (for pore water extraction, exudate sampling, manipulation). Standard Rhizonboxes are available in A5, A4 or A3 paper size (external dimensions), are 3 cm deep (internal dimensions) and have a perforated bottom for water drainage. The internal dimensions of the A5 boxes are 19.2 cm high and 11.2 cm wide, the A4 boxes are 27.9 cm high and 17.4 cm wide, and the A3 boxes are 40.2 cm high and 26.1 cm wide (inside).  Front (clear) and back (black) panels are individually removable for soil filling/root sampling. The back panel contains a 5 mm x 5 mm grid of 1.5 mm diameter holes (starting 4 cm from the top, 2 cm from the sides and bottom) for MicroRhizon soil water samplers (RRP #19.21.81; available in the webshop). The clear front panel allows observation / imaging of root system development and/or mycorrhizal hyphae / soil fauna. The Rhizonboxes are made of durable acrylic (4 mm PMMA) and come unassembled with all necessary hardware included (hex screws, spacers, etc.). Rhizonbox variants made from virgin (standard) or recycled PMMA are available - Go Green! For custom Rhizonbox designs, larger orders and export (outside the EU), please submit the configuration form. Manipulation Stands facilitate the insertion of Rhizon Samplers in the perforated back panels.

Compact Rhizobox Racks hold 5 Rhizoboxes / Splitboxes / Rhizonboxes each - placed front to back. Racks for standard size Rhizoboxes are available in the online shop in the sizes A3, A4 and A5 (3 cm inside depth). Material is durable 8 mm PP + aluminum spacers. The angled design (40° from vertical, 50° from horizontal) facilitates standardized root growth along the transparent surface of the rhizoboxes/splitboxes/rhizonboxes. Please select the rack size that fits your Rootbox dimensions (A5 to A3). Compact racks are compatible with the use of Shading Panels; the use of one shading panel is recommended (i.e. for the first rootbox in a row). Rhizoboxes/Shading Panels are not included.

The Rhizobox Racks hold 5 Rhizoboxes / Splitboxes / Rhizonboxes each. Racks for the standard Rhizoboxes are available in the online shop in the sizes A3, A4 and A5 (3 cm inside depth). Material is strong 8 mm PP + aluminum spacers. The "standard" racks have gaps between the rhizoboxes and allow the rhizoboxes to be placed and removed individually. The angled design (40° from vertical, 50° from horizontal) facilitates standardized root growth along the transparent surface of the rhizoboxes for root observation. Please select the rack size that fits your Rootbox dimensions (A5 to A3). Racks are compatible with the use of Shading Panels (recommended). Rhizoboxes / Shading Panels not included.

Holding the soil-filled Rhizobox, Splitbox or Rhizonbox at an angle, rather than on a flat surface, is key to preventing soil from falling out of the top of the Rhizobox when the front panel is opened and prevents damage to shoots (compared to laying boxes on a flat surface). The stands are are also an ideal tool for creating educative displays. The Rhizobox manipulation stand (4-5 mm PMMA, black; aluminum spacers) is angled 30° (from horizontal) and securely holds an A3 to A5 size rhizobox for manipulation or display. Please select the stand size that fits your Rootbox dimensions (A5 to A3). The stands can be produced from new (standard) or recycled PMMA - Go Green!  Rhizobox  / Splitbox / Rhizonbox not included.

The Light Shielding / Shading Panel (1 mm PMMA, black) can be attached to the transparent front of the Rhizobox / Rhizonbox to reduce the exposure of roots and rhizosphere soil to light - preventing algae growth and other unwanted effects on the experiments. The panels are attached to the Rhizoboxes with two office binders (not included) and fit into the Rhizobox Racks when assembled. Available in the online shop for Rhizoboxes and Rhizonboxes of sizes A5, A4, A3 (covering the whole front panel). Rootboxes not included.
