Soil Corer for Large Cores with minimal Disturbance

Robust and Flexible Soil Coring System for Moderately Sandy to Stony Soils

Soil Core Sampler. We offer complete sets of soil coring equipment, manufactured according to long-term experience and field approved. The soil corer is used to collect minimally compressed, large soil cores for soil profile description, soil sampling for physico-chemical analyses, root biomass determination, and other environmental investigations including sampling for morphometric soil horizons, pollutants, microbes and soil fauna. Soil core samples are easily removed from the soil core sampler because of its unique design - the crown has a slightly smaller (~6 mm) internal diameter than the tube - reducing friction when extracting the soil core (entering the pusher from the crown-side of the corer and extracting the core toward the top end of the tube). The crowns are hardened and can be replaced (wit hthree scews) even in the field. Standard soil corer size is 58 mm inside diameter (i.e. soil core diameter; 68 mm OD of soil corer), 70 cm corer tube length - allowing sampling to ~60 cm soil depth. Choose 70 mm inner diameter / soil core diameter (80 mm soil sampling tube OD) for least compression rates.

Components and Specifications SO Soil Core Sampler Sets OPEN

Standard VSI SO Core Soil Sampler Sets include:

  • 50, 70, 90 or 110 cm long soil corer (soil sampling tube) manufactured from stainless steel at three standard diameters (80 [70], 68 [58], or 58 [48} mm outer [inner] diameter (inner diameter = inner diameter of the crown), 
  • replaceable crown / cutting shoe (hardened metal), and an extra crown (+screws)
  • handle to pull the corer out,
  • plastic pusher to extract the intact soil core after sampling,
  • vibration absorbing drive head (with leather inlay), used to drive the sampling tube into the soil,
  • soft-head hammer, and
  • robust carrying case.

Optional:

  • Additional copper ring between drive head and soil sampling tube / corer - provides extra protection to the soil sample tube. The copper ring deforms over time and must be replaced for continued operation (depending on use every couple of years).

Customization option: The crown and corer tube diameter, length etc. can be custom-build to needs e.g. allowing to use the system also for tight minirhizotron tube installation and sampling to different depth. Please inquire for other soil coring tube diameter - custom soil tube and crown dimensions are available to achieve specific soil core dimensions.
