Hydrogen H2 Gas Analyser

Q-S121 Gas-phase Hydrogen Analyser

Q-S121 Hydrogen H2 Analyzer

Q-S121 H2 Gas Analyser, a flow-through system enabling precise measurements of H2 gas in the range of 0-100 ppm. If your requirements extend beyond this range, customisation options are available. This analyser uses a tin-dioxide (SnO2) semiconductor sensing element, and its output is sensitive to background gas composition (N2 vs Ar) and oxygen levels. The Q-S121 is factory calibrated at 21% O2 for both N2 and Ar background gases. If the Q-C610 LabQuest Mini Data Interface and the optional Q-C901 Logger Pro software are chosen, a corresponding experimental setup file is supplied. This file makes it easy to correct the voltage output to accurately reflect the molecular hydrogen concentration in ppm. The versatility of the Q-S121 extends to applications such as measuring nitrogenase activity, particularly in H2 evolution within the uptake hydrogenase (HUP) minus symbioses of legumes. In particular, this gas-phase hydrogen analyser is an integral part of the Q-NF1LP Nitrogen Fixation Package.

Overview - Hydrogen Gas Analysis

There are several methods for analysing hydrogen (H2) in the gas phase, each with its own advantages and applications. Here are three common methods, along with some references for each (below): ... Show more
  • Infrared Spectroscopy: Infrared spectroscopy analyses, such as employed in the H2 analysers above, measure hydrogen gas by its absorption of infrared radiation, revealing molecular vibrations specific to H2. This non-destructive technique is used for both qualitative and quantitative analysis of hydrogen content in various samples, including biology, crude oil and petrochemical products. Its versatility makes it valuable in industries requiring accurate and instant measurements of hydrogen concentration.
  • Gas Chromatography (GC): Gas chromatography separates hydrogen gas from other components in a sample based on their different affinities for a stationary phase. The elution time allows quantitative analysis of the hydrogen concentration. It is widely used for purity assessment in industrial hydrogen production and ensures accurate characterisation of trace impurities. Gas samples, taken with our automatic whole air sample systems, can subsequently be analysed with gas chromatographs for hydrogen.
  • Mass Spectrometry (MS): Mass spectrometry identifies and quantifies hydrogen isotopes by measuring the mass-to-charge ratio of ions produced by the sample. This method is highly sensitive and allows precise detection of impurities in hydrogen. Applications range from monitoring purity in hydrogen production to research in fields as diverse as environmental science and materials research.

Q-NF1LP Nitrogen Fixation Package

The Q-S121 H2 Analyser is a module of the Q-NF1LP Nitrogen Fixation Package, using H2 evolution to non-destructively determine the N fixation by rhizobia.

Hydrogen sampling into vials

For automatic hydrogen / air-mixture sampling into evacuated vials, allowing for later gas chromatographic analysis etc., the AS-100 air sampler has been developed. Air sampler for UAV available.

CO2 Analyzer Models

For measurements of CO2 or O2 in the gas phase, consider the different models of CO2 IRGAs, or O2 gas analyser models.
